AGATE is a parent-led group that partners with teachers, administrators, and community organizations to advocate for the best learning environment for all students in Port Washington. We help identify enrichment opportunities, promote academic growth, and support the diverse ways students learn, from pre-K through graduation.
We believe every child deserves an education that challenges, inspires, and empowers them to reach their fullest potential. We hope you’ll join us!
AGATE’s HISTORY AND MISSION
AGATE, or Advocacy for Gifted and Talented Education, was founded in the 199os when a group of parents came together to advocate for their advanced learners.
Today, we continue to work in our capacity as an HSA to advocate for the unique needs of diverse advanced learners, including twice-exceptional (2E) learners, through a variety of programming, speakers, community coffees, and community building.
Each year AGATE awards the Toula J. Halperin Scholarship to several Schreiber High School seniors who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement coupled with the passionate and dedicated pursuit of a talent, skill or interest. Students who are interested in applying for the scholarship should speak to their guidance counselors.
In honor of more than 25 years of advocacy and service, here is a brief history of AGATE’s mission and goals.
